GENERAL SUMMER STAFF JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary
The General Summer Staff (GSS) is a paid employee who serves for the summer season, and whose responsibilities include Maintenance Aide, Kitchen Aide, Support Services Aide and specialty jobs. The specific responsibilities of the GSS vary from session-to-session depending on the specific needs of the weekly program and summer staff.
Duration
The GSS serves for the summer season as determined by the Center’s programs and needs.
Employed and Supervised by
The GSS is employed by Hope Conference and Renewal Center and supervised by the Center Administrator and the Summer Staff Supervisor.
Responsibilities
The GSS has a key role in the ministry of hospitality to the camper/guests.

A. Cleanliness and Safety (Housekeeping)
The GSS helps insure that all Center facilities and property meet a high standard of cleanliness and safety as guided by the State Department of Health, and the Center Administrator.

B. Grounds Keeping
The GSS is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of equipment used for grounds keeping. Likewise, s/he mows lawns, weed whacks, plants flowers, rakes, cuts firewood, patrols for litter, picks up sticks and properly disposes of trash (dumpster or recyclables).

C. Maintenance
The GSS is responsible for general repair and custodial duties including checking for damages and repairing them and writing repair orders.

D. Food Preparation
The GSS helps with the food and snack preparation as directed by the Food Service Manager for all camper/guests contracted for Center food service.
E. ​Clean-up
The GSS does regular clean-up after meals and snacks, including the washing of dishes, pots, pans, counters, stove, kitchen and dining room floors, dining tables, and food storage areas. S/he also properly disposes of trash and recyclables and is expected to maintain cleanliness at or above the standards of the New Jersey Department of Health.

F. Store Clerk
Functions as the store clerk and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the store as directed by the Summer Staff Supervisor. S/he keeps accurate sales records and income for daily deposit.

G. Policy and Procedures
The GSS personally follows, adheres to and models all policies and procedures of the Center, including the Personnel Policies, Discipline Policy, Emergency Procedures, and Guidelines. S/he encourages other staff to do the same.
​
H. Other Responsibilities
The GSS seeks time for personal devotions and Christian meditation. S/he completes written evaluation(s) of his/her and other staff performance as requested.

I. If the GSS has a specialty job (lifeguard) s/he will perform these jobs depending on the specific needs of the weekly program
Qualifications
A. Has demonstrated or has potential skills and abilities in:

General housekeeping, grounds keeping and maintenance repairs.

Meal and snack preparation.

Cleanliness.
-
Community-building and Cooperative (group) problem-solving.

Caring and supportive personality.
-
Making decisions based upon Christian principles and Hope Center philosophy, rules and regulations.

B. Posses or be:

Commitment to Jesus Christ and His Church.

Willing to become familiar with the Moravian Church and its beliefs.

Active in a Christian Church.

Minimum of age 16 (age 17 and High School graduate preferred).

Other Information
-
As with all Weekly and Summer-Long Staff, a Covenant (contract) is issued for signature to the GSS by the Center Administrator on behalf of the Hope Center Management Board.

Remunerations: salary, workers’ compensation, staff shirt, training, and reimbursement for approved expenses. Guaranteed minimum of 24 consecutive hours off per week and at least 2 hours break per day.
