SUMMER STAFF SUPERVISOR JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary

The Summer Staff Supervisor is a first assistant to the Center Administrator. The Summer Staff Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and spiritual nurture of the summer-long paid staff and the coordination of all summer youth conference and specialty camps.

 

Duration of Position

The Summer Staff Supervisor serves for the summer season (1 day a week March - May; full time June thru August) as determined by the Center’s programs and needs as well as time needed to prepare summer-long staff training.

 

Employed and Supervised By

The Summer Staff Supervisor is employed by Hope Conference and Renewal Center and supervised by the Center Administrator.

 

General Responsibilities

  1. Assists in hiring Summer-Long Staff.

  2. Supervises all the Summer-Long Staff and serves as a communications conduit among all staff.

  3. Assists in providing leadership for Weekly Staff Orientation(s). 

  4. Plans and leads the Summer-Long Staff Training in consultation with department heads.

  5. Coordinates business meetings and corporate worship for the Summer-Long Staff community.

  6. Oversees all regular, on-site operations in the absence of the Center Administrator.

  7. Functions in accordance with written and implied Hope Center policies, procedures and guidelines, is a good model and supports and monitors all staff.

  8. Completes staff and program evaluations, health emergency reports (in cooperation with the camp nurse), and other reports/ documentation.

  9. Daily and fully communicates and consults with Center Administrator regarding all activities. 

  10. Completes other duties as needs make them obvious.

 

Qualifications

A.  Has demonstrated effective and Christian leadership skills and/or abilities in:

  1. Personnel supervision and evaluation.

  2. Making decisions based upon Christian principles and Hope Center philosophy, rules and regulations.

  3. Christian educational ministry and worship/devotional experiences.

  4. Community-building and cooperative (group) problem solving. 

  5. Responding to emergency and health matters in an effective, efficient, and caring manner. 


B.  Possess or be:

  1. Commitment to Jesus Christ and His Church.

  2. Familiarity with the Moravian Church and its beliefs, specifically, The Covenant for Christian Living.  

  3. Active in a Christian church.

  4. Experience and maturity.

  5. A high school diploma or equivalent.  

  6. Teaching and/or leadership experience in at least one Christian summer camp OR a school OR equivalent experience.

  7. Minimum of age 18.

  8. Valid drivers’ license and a good driving record.

 

Other information

  • As with all Weekly and Summer-Long Staff, a Covenant is issued for signature to the Summer Staff Supervisor by the Center Administrator on behalf of the Hope Center Management Board.

  • Remunerations: salary, worker’s compensation, free room and board, staff shirt, and paid training. Guaranteed minimum of 24 consecutive hours off per week and at least two hours break per day.
