JOB DESCRIPTION FOR MAINTENANCE AIDE

Summary
The Maintenance Aide is a paid employee who serves for the summer season, and whose responsibilities include providing clean, safe and well-maintained grounds, and facilities for the sake of the camper/guests. The Maintenance Aide is involved with housekeeping, grounds keeping and minor repairs.
The specific responsibilities of the Maintenance Aide vary form session-to-session depending on the specific needs of the program and maintenance department.
Duration
The Maintenance Aide serves during the summer season as determined by the Center’s programs and needs.
Employed and Supervised by
The Kitchen Aide is employed by Hope Conference and Renewal Center and supervised by the Center Administrator.
Responsibilities
The Maintenance Aide is a key role in the ministry of hospitality to the camper/guests. S/he is involved in the provision of clean, safe and well-maintained facilities and grounds.
A. Planning, Preparations and Staff Communications
The Maintenance Aide cooperatively works with all other weekly volunteer and summer-long paid staff. S/he fully participates in the Summer-Long Staff as well as daily and weekly staff meetings. The Maintenance Aide cooperates and communicates with the Center Administrator and the Summer Staff Supervisor on a regular basis.

B. Cleanliness and Safety (Housekeeping)
The Maintenance Aide helps insure that all Center facilities and property meet a high standard of cleanliness and safety as guided by the State Department of Health.

C. Grounds Keeping
The Maintenance Aide is responsible, with the guidance of the Summer Staff Supervisor and the Center Administrator, for the upkeep and maintenance of equipment used for grounds keeping. Likewise, s/he mows lawns, weed whacks, plants flowers, rakes, cuts firewood, patrols for litter, picks up sticks and properly disposes of trash. (dumpster and recyclables)

D. Maintenance
The Maintenance Aide is responsible for general repair and custodial duties as instructed by The Center Administrator and The Summer Staff Supervisor, including checking for damages and repairing them and writing repair orders.
E. The Policy and Procedures
The Maintenance Aide personally follows, adheres to and models all policies and procedures of the Center, including the Personnel Policies, Discipline Policy, Emergency Procedures, and Guidelines. S/he encourages other staff to do the same.
F. Other Responsibilities
The Maintenance Aide seeks time for personal devotions and Christian meditation. The Maintenance Aide completes written evaluation(s) of his/her and other staff performance as requested.
Qualifications
A. Has demonstrated skills and abilities in:

General housekeeping, grounds keeping and maintenance repairs.

Community-building and Cooperative (group) problem-solving.

Caring and supportive personality.

Making decisions based upon Christian principles and Hope Center philosophy, rules and regulations.

B. Possess or be:

Commitment to Jesus Christ and His Church.

Willing to become familiar with the Moravian Church and its beliefs.

Active in a Christian Church.

A high school diploma.
-
Minimum of age 18.

Other Information
-
As with all Weekly and Summer-Long Staff, a Covenant (contract) is issued for signature to the Maintenance Aide by the Center Administrator on behalf of the Hope Center Management Board.

Remunerations: salary, workers’ compensation, staff shirt, training, and reimbursement for approved expenses. Guaranteed minimum of 24 consecutive hours off per week and at least 2 hours break per day.
